Bio
Marielle Peschiera grew up in the beautiful Caribbean island, Puerto Rico, and graduated with a B.S. degree in Wildlife Management from the University of Puerto Rico at Humacao in 2010. As an undergraduate student Marielle participated on numerous volunteer research programs focused on plant biology and ecology. However, living on an island has driven her passion towards water and subsequently towards a graduate program and Master of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife working in the Center for Systems Integration and Sustainability at Michigan State University.

Marielle spent the summer of 2011 living at Reston, VA where she worked for the United States Geological Survey’s National Climate Change and Wildlife Science Center. There she got involve in evaluating recent research on how climate change could affect primary production in oceans and how this will affect fish biodiversity and in the long term the ecosystem services we receive from these ecosystems.

Marielle Peschiera is one of the initial students to participate in the Michigan State University - University of Puerto Rico Partnership in Natural Resource and Conservation Studies. As a Master’s student she will study the impacts of climate change and land use change on fish biodiversity and production in select freshwater systems in the United States, including rivers in Puerto Rico. In addition, Marielle plans to be involved in the design and implementation of public policy at the local, regional and national level that would assist communities in creating effective strategies to mitigate or adapt to these global impacts.
