Jian began his undergraduate study on ecology in University of Science and Technology of Beijing, during which to do the research on urban ecology, bio-capacity and ecological footprint. He is a PhD student in the State Key Laboratory of Grassland Agro-ecosystems in Lanzhou University. His work focuses coupled human and natural systems (CHANS) under forest management in China and Africa.
