Eric Branch
Major Advisor:
Brett DeGregorio
Background:
Eric’s research interests largely focus on understanding how rare animal species respond to habitat management. He received his B.S. from Western Michigan University in 2018, during which time he developed an appreciation for field work, applied science, and avian research. He currently works as a Research Assistant at Michigan Natural Features Inventory, where he supports the work of the science staff by conducting targeted surveys for rare and declining bird and butterfly species. He engages in long-term studies that monitor both species status and habitat conditions, and enjoys finding ways to effectively communicate these findings to land managers to positively impact management strategies. As a graduate student, Eric will help the Michigan DNR evaluate how alternative management of impounded wetlands impacts waterbird use and vegetation response. Outside of work he enjoys spending time with his dogs, running, kayaking, and playing sports.
