Sizing Main

Sizing Main Calculator

Steps for sizing the main pipe:

1- Choose the desired drain spacing

2- Based on the desired drain spacing, estimate the drainage intensity using the Drainage Intensity calculator.

3- Choose a drainage coefficient (DC) that is greater than or equal to drainage intensity (DI) for best performance.

4- Calculate the area drained for a specific location along the main pipe.

Area drained = Drain spacing × (Total lateral length + Total main length)

5- Select the main pipe material, and enter area drained, main grade, and DC for that specific location, and click "calculate".

Drainage coefficient should be greater than or equal to drainage intensity for best performance
