The 19th Annual Animal Science Graduate Research Forum consisted of ten oral presentations and nine posters. Award winners included the following students:

New Graduate Student Award: Simon Collier

(MS Student; PI: Cathy Ernst) Title: Impact of parity on stall utilization in free access stall systems

MS 1st: Katie Baugh

(PI: Janice Siegford) Title: Productivity, floor eggs, mortality, and welfare across two cage-free aviary configurations

MS 2nd: Renee Harbowy

PhD 1st: Ali Santos

(PI: Richard Pursley) Title: Effect of antral age of the ovulatory follicle on fertility of lactating dairy cows

PhD 2nd: Haylee Reisinger

(PI: Barry Bradford) Title: Abomasal infusion of docosahexaenoic acid to mid-lactation dairy cows dose-dependently enhanced neutrophil phagocytosis in whole-blood in vitro stimulations

PhD 3rd: Nattawipa (Eye) Ampaiwan

(PI: Jackie Jacobs) Title: Feline stakeholder attitudes and opinions on community cat welfare

Outstanding Posters:

(PI: Zheng Zhou) Title: Abomasal infusion of branched-chain amino acids or branched chain keto-acids decreased risk of oxidative stress in fresh cows

 

This event took place October 17 and was sponsored by COGS and the Department of Animal Science. Judges throughout the day: poster judges Dr. Dale Rozeboom, Dr. Jerry Kehr, Dr. Miriam Weber, Dr. Wen Huang, Dr. Jason Knott, and Dr. Laman Mamedova and our oral presentation judges: Dr. Brian Nielsen, Dr. Jackie Jacobs, Dr. Francine Czerniawski, and Dr. Jongkyoo Kim. The 2024 organizing committee consisted of Paiton McDonald, Jair Esteban Parales-Giron, Erika Eckhardt, and Dr. Jongkyoo Kim.
