SPDC’s Jun-Hyun Kim is elected to the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture Board of Directors

EmailJun-Hyun Kim, associate professor and program director of the LA Program and the MED Program in SPDC, was elected to the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture Board of Directors.
Jun-Hyun Kim, associate professor and program director of the Landscape Architecture Program and the Master of Environmental Design Program in the School of Planning, Design and Construction, was elected to the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture Board of Directors.
He will serve as secretary and vice president of communications, outreach and publications for the next two years. He was officially elected to the board at the CELA 2018 Conference at Virginia Tech University last week.
The Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture, established in 1920, advocates and provides a forum for landscape architecture education programs and fosters and disseminates landscape architectural scholarship with its peer-reviewed journal, Landscape Journal.
The CELA is composed of virtually all the landscape architecture programs of higher education in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Asia. Kim was voted into this position by these programs via secret ballot. Each department leader cast their vote based on discussion with their program faculty.
This the second time that a faculty member from the MSU Landscape Architecture Program has been represented on the CELA board. The last time was in 1999 when Professor Joanne Westphal (now emeritus) was elected as CELA’s president. The SPDC’s Director Ming-Han Li also served as president-elect, president and past president during his tenure at Texas A&M University.
“It is a great pleasure and privilege to serve CELA members, and to help make the MSU Landscape Architecture Program more visible to our peers in the nation and worldwide,” said Jun-Hyun Kim.
“Based on my experiences with service activities to CELA, I am confident that I will keep meeting CELA’s expectations of excellence, and become a contributing member in reaching the high standard that has been set. I am looking forward to contributing to CELA in my position as the secretary and vice president for communications, outreach, and publications.”
During his two-year term, Kim will work with the CELA Executive Committee and the Board to communicate the Council’s business and administrative operations to the membership, and will coordinate with the regional directors and the Executive Committee to collect international, national and regional news/events.
He will also contribute to CELA’s publication efforts, including CELA Forum and Landscape Journal.
