Hsiao and Nohner awarded Ball fellowships
Add Summary
Master’s student Janet Hsiao and PhD student Joe Nohner have been awarded the Robert C. Ball and Betty A. Ball Fisheries and Wildlife Fellowships, which recognize students committed to studying fisheries, limnology or water quality.
Hsiao, who studies with Dana Infante, will use the fellowship money, approximately $5,000, to participate in the Great Lakes Leadership Academy and to support her research investigating inland-coastal linkages.
Nohner, who studies with Bill Taylor, will be using the funds from his Ball Fellowship to support costs he incurs while analyzing data and publishing the results for his dissertation, "Impacts and socioeconomic drivers of lakeshore development and in-lake habitat degradation on largemouth bass recruitment and productivity in inland Michigan lakes."
Robert Ball, a limnologist, was one of the first members of the faculty in the Department of Fisheries and Wildlife at Michigan State University and served as the director of the Institute for Water Research.
