Summer student jobs at the ES George Reserve

Hiring Organization: University of Michigan
Employment type: Full-Time
Job Location: Edwin S. George Reserve
Application Due Date: April 30, 2025

We are seeking enthusiastic, botanically inclined students or community members to help with a forest inventory project at the ES George Reserve. The work involves measuring, tagging, and entering data about trees and shrubs in a 23-ha parcel of oak-hickory forest. This is part of a global network of forest inventory plots coordinated by the Smithsonian Institution.

The other Principal Investigators are John Vandermeer, Ivette Perfecto, and David Allen, who is an EEB PhD alumnus and professor at Middlebury College.

It is a good opportunity to get out into the field, gain some research experience, and make some money this summer while staying close to Ann Arbor.

We anticipate the work will start the week of May 7 and end around July 15. There is a possibility for working part of this time. The work pays $15/hr. for up to 40 hrs. per week (depending on the weather). We will arrange transportation.

We are also looking for a coordinator to manage the data and student hours. The coordinator position will pay a higher salary commensurate with experience.

If you are interested in the tree mapping, please fill out this google form. If you are interested in the coordinator position or have other questions, please contact me (Chris Dick; cwdick@umich.edu) and send me your CV. We will review applications in mid-March.
