Professional Assistant to Staff Temporary MassTimber Exhibit

Position description: Seeking professional assistant to staff a temporary Tall Timber Exhibit to be housed in Detroit, Michigan. Training will be provided.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Open and close the exhibit space each day
- Staff an information desk in the exhibit space and provide guests with verbal and pre-printed information about the exhibit, its contents, and MassTimber@MSU
- Communicate with guests to prevent touching of/damage of exhibition items
- Tidy the space at the beginning/end of each day
- Communicate with MassTimber@MSU staff about inventory of supplies and printed material; maintenance needs; guest questions/concerns
- Meet and orient guest exhibitors to the space.
- Help staff some special events
- Other duties as assigned
Required/Preferred Qualifications:
- A high-school diploma or GED is required
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills required
- Demonstrated record of reliability and working independently is required
- An associate’s or bachelor’s degree, or current enrollment in an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program is preferred
- 1-2 years of customer service experience preferred
- An interest in any one, or combination, of the following topics is preferred: mass timber, architecture, construction, engineering, forestry, forest products, climate change, sustainability, community or real estate development
Compensation: $18.00/hour, with an expectation of working 20-30 hours per week. Hours will be variable; employee must staff the exhibit during pre-determined public hours, which may include weekends or evenings.
Time Frame: Assignment is expected to begin at the beginning of October 2025 and last until early/mid-March 2026.
Working Conditions: The work will be in a typical office setting. The employee will be expected to represent MSU professionally in appearance.
Location: Work will be in Detroit, Michigan. Parking near the work location during work hours will be provided.
