Allen Neighborhood Center (ANC) is seeking a qualified candidate for its full-time
GardenHouse Manager position.
ORGANIZATIONAL INFORMATION:
ANC serves as a dynamic hub where Lansing Eastside neighbors can access resources to
improve their health and well-being; expand their capacity to seize job and
entrepreneurial opportunities; create a strong sense of place, belonging, and community
pride; and build a safe, sustainable, and thriving neighborhood. Since 1999, ANC has
pioneered programs in health education and outreach, housing improvement, food
security and nutrition education, youth development, commercial corridor revitalization,
and social capital building.
JOB OVERVIEW:
The GardenHouse Manager will oversee programming at Hunter Park GardenHouse.
Hunter Park GardenHouse is a neighborhood-based educational farm and community
garden. Developed in 2008 as part of a community-led improvement plan for Hunter Park,
the GardenHouse centers programming in three areas: home gardening education for all
ages, fresh food access, and urban ecological restoration. The GardenHouse Manager will
develop, manage, and facilitate community-centered programs, as well as production
tasks. The right candidate will have a strong passion for diversity, equity, inclusion, and
belonging (DEIB) and will find creative ways to braid DEIB initiatives into all aspects of
programming.
DUTIES:
This person will serve as the GardenHouse Manager and will:
• Supervise staff, AmeriCorps Members, fellows, interns, and volunteers
• Lead 3-4 GardenHouse shifts per week, as well as occasional large volunteer groups
• Use multiple communications channels to effectively engage ANC’s target audiences
including social media, email campaigns, and print materials
• Oversee crop planning, planting, and crop maintenance
• Coordinate community-centered events, such as potlucks, workshops, and tours.
• Evaluate and write reports showcasing program effectiveness
• Develop and maintain educational materials

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
• Commitment to Lansing’s Eastside, its residents, stakeholders as well as strategic
partners throughout the mid-Michigan region
• Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including weekends and evenings
• Ability to regularly lift and move up to 40 pounds
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to flex
communication styles for different kinds of audiences
• Experience in vegetable farming and/or gardening
• Passion for strengthening the local food system and for ANC’s mission
• Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Hourly wage of $23/hr for 40 hrs/wk, plus modest benefits, in generous paid time off,
numerous paid holidays (Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day,
Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and the following day, and Christmas Eve through New Years
Day), simple IRA retirement fund with 3% employer match, and employer-subsidized
healthcare that includes vision and dental.
