Course description:
This 2-credit course consists of lectures, group-based discussions and practical computer- based analyses to provide students with a breath of knowledge in the omics tools used to study plant pathogens. It will explore how these tools allow us to understand plant pathogen evolution. Students will learn the principles of different omics techniques including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics. They will be able to discuss considerations for experimental design and formulate their own research questions. They will learn about and apply bioinformatic tools to analyze real omics datasets. With this knowledge they will discuss current research articles in the field allowing them to develop skills in critical review of the scientific literature.
