Course Description

Design, installation and maintenance of irrigation systems for horticultural crops. Irrigation system hydraulics, irrigation equipment and component selection, pumps, troubleshooting, best management practices, water quality and conservation.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, students will understand the:

  • importance of water use efficiency and conservation
  • principles of hydraulics and how they impact irrigation system efficiency
  • relationship between plant health and proper installation and scheduling of irrigation systems
  • design, installation, and maintenance of automatic irrigation systems used in landscape and plant production industries
  • electrical components / troubleshooting and auditing of irrigation systems
  • basic specifications and installation of pump and well systems
