Food Laws and Regulations in China

This course with emphasizes on the most up-to-date rules and regulations. Course instruction is completely online with lectures, reading assignments, discussions, and practical activities. China food law experts contribute to the course and are available to answer questions on topics presented. The course syllabus is subject to change each semester but general will cover the following topics:

  • Accessing China Food Law
  • Hygiene and Food Safety
  • Food Labeling and Advertising
  • Influencing Consumers
  • Permitted Claims
  • Special Food Categories
  • Risk Assessment
  • Novel Food Approval
  • Food Additives/Contaminants/Pesticide Residues/Packaging Residues
  • Processing Requirements Under Good Manufacturing Provisions
  • Food Fraud in China
  • E-commerce
  • Import/Export Tariff and Trade Issues
  • Liabilities Towards Consumers

Schedule:

This condensed course is offered every year in summer semester 1. It typically runs from mid-May to late June.

Please note this is a 7-week condensed summer semester course. Students may expect 6 hours of lecture, discussion, and exercises and 12 hours of reading and studying per week.
